Anh Nguyen lives and paints from Thirroul on the NSW South Coast, with her partner and 4 children. She was recently the winner of the Basil Sellers Art Prize 2019 and previously a finalist in the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award, St George Art Awards and Little Things Art Prize.

“My paintings are a response to the visual excitement found in life; to prolong the visual joy of noticing something interesting or beautiful. My motifs revolve around daily rhythms, human activity and small moments. I am interested in finding that space between perceptual painting and something more abstract, and using colour relationship and shapes to describe the effects of light. “The rose is the look of the garden” is a line from the children’s poem “The Look” by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, where she captures the way certain creatures and objects define the world around them. Often my artistic process will involve text and poetry to prompt and remind ‘the look’ of things, striving to arrive at a poetic image. ”
