ARTIST STATEMENT
“Drawing is primary in my practice and the paintings take the form of grisaille and extension of drawing. The Artist’s Muse, Ned Kelly’s Death Mask and About Face are three portraits addressing love, sex, death and eternity”.
BIO
Born in Paddington, London in 1977, Matthew Kentmann studied BFA with Honours, College of Fine Arts, UNSW.
Sydney based artist represented by Piermarq Gallery and a finalist in major art prizes including Dobell Drawing Prize 2003, 2011; the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing 2018 and the Archibald Prize 2015.
